The growth of social media over recent years has brought with it a lot of trends, some good, some bad and some downright ludacris. These trends change our view on topics, how we discuss them and finally, how we think about them. One of the most positive and most important movements it has unearthed is the ‘Love Yourself’ or ‘Body Positivity’ movement. In this world of comparison and competition, we often forget to appreciate the skin we are in. Your body is your business, so it is important to keep it up and running. Don’t know where to start? There are many little ways to love your body, soothe your senses and rejuvenate your relationship with yourself. Here are just a few things you can do to make sure your body knows it’s loved!

Get Moving
30 minutes of physical activity a day keeps the doctors away. Go jogging, dance, or join a class and get those muscles moving. From reducing your chances of chronic disease to improving your everyday mood, just 30 minutes of exercise can change how you live!

Listen to your favourite tunes
Music is therapeutic. A dose of your favourite music lifts your mood and releases serotonin. From engaging different parts of your brain and making you smarter, to reducing your anxiety, your favourite song can do so much.

Eat enough, eat well
Eating good is a practice that leaves you feeling happy and energetic. Eating healthy makes your heart stronger and boosts your immunity! Ditch the junk and find alternatives that do the job. Instead of having ice-cream, get a cup of frozen yogurt, butter can be replaced with delicious nut butter, sugary cornflakes with oatmeal and so on! Of course, there’s no harm in treating yourself every once in a while.

Drink up
Nothing like a glass of water to get your body buzzing. A glass every 3 hours gets your skin glowing and reduces your risk of cancer. Now that’s a miracle potion!

Take a cold shower
A cold shower helps improve circulation and does wonders for your hair. With the power to relieve stress and the ability to increase alertness, hydrotherapy is a must.

Say thanks
There’s a lot in this world to love and be thankful for. After you wake up, take 5 minutes out to list down the things you are grateful for. Positivity pays!

Sleep. There’s nothing a good night’s sleep won’t help with. Getting a good 7-9 hours every day helps with everything from boosting your memory to reducing your risk of depression.

Focus on the things you love about yourself
Maybe you’ve always like your dimples or the beauty mark on your cheek or maybe you appreciate your kind and caring disposition. Focus on the things you like about yourself, and that’s what others will be able to see. Self-positivity helps reduce stress and can also reduce your risk of getting a common cold!

Spend time with the one’s you love
Spending time around people you love will only make you feel better. Studies have found that people who spend time with friends and family have a longer life span, similar to that seen in those who don’t smoke!

But don’t forget your ‘me’ time.
There should always be time for yourself. Take some time out each day or week, whatever you can spare and use it to do the things you love the most. Watch a movie, read a book, start learning something new. It’s all up to you.

Your body is completely under your control and it only works when your physical self and your mental self stay balanced. So, respect it, pamper it, understand it and of course love it!
